General description
- Cholesterol (cholesterin, cholesteryl alcohol) is a lipid sterol found in vertebrate cell membranes
- Cholesterol is a cholestanoid, a class of molecule that contains the C-27 cholestane motif
- A precursor of many steroids and sex hormones in animals including cortisol, aldosterone, testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen
