Vector Options for Synthesized Genes |
We offer cloning services for de novo genes synthesized by the GeneArt services team. Selecting a vector is key to experimental design. Once we synthesize your gene, we offer several options for vector delivery designed to provide you with maximum flexibility and fast delivery.
We offer four options to clone your synthesized genes for delivery.
Our standard shuttle vector, pMX, is a pUC19 derivative with a choice of antibiotic resistance markers and is commonly used for delivering synthesized DNA. To obtain your target gene, excise it using restriction enzyme digestion or PCR amplification, and clone as desired.
Pro tip: Include specific flanking restriction sites in the gene sequence design.

Direct cloning using expression-ready vectors involves inserting your gene of interest directly into a vector that is pre-designed for gene expression. These vectors come equipped with necessary regulatory elements such as promoters, enhancers, and antibiotic resistance markers, allowing for immediate expression of the cloned gene in the host organism. This method streamlines the cloning process by eliminating the need for additional subcloning steps, making it fast and efficient for producing recombinant proteins or studying gene function.
For direct cloning, genes must be <5 kb and without complex sequences. Save up to six days of turnaround time with direct cloning into one of a growing list of popular vectors suitable for a range of applications including Gateway cloning, recombinant antibody expression, and expression of proteins in mammalian, bacterial, insect, yeast, or cell-free systems.
Pro tip: To optimize your gene sequence, reduce complexity, and maximize protein expression levels, use the Invitrogen GeneArt GeneOptimizer algorithm.
Explore available vectors for direct cloning using our vector selection tool
For faster delivery of your cloned, expression-ready genes, opt for Express delivery and Super Speed service.
For downstream applications, synthesized genes can be cloned into commercially available Invitrogen vectors, such as Gateway vectors.
Use our Gene Synthesis vector selection tool to choose the right vector
Gateway cloning is an ideal choice to shuttle genes of interest between vectors, using site-specific recombination-based cloning and is recommended for subcloning. Gateway cloning is compatible with multiple expression systems and maintains the insert’s proper orientation and reading frame during shuttling, which improves speed and efficiency of cloning. As the sole provider of the Gateway recombination cloning technology we can subclone your gene into one of our many Gateway vectors
Pro tip:If you don’t see a vector for selection from the drop-down in the classic ordering portal, you can purchase a commercially available Invitrogen vector and send it to us.
