Chromatography and Purification Products

Chromatography and purification products for multiple stages

Thermo Fisher Scientific offers a broad portfolio, with chromatography products that can support development from early research through large-scale manufacturing. These products are designed to align with specific workflow needs for modalities including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), therapeutic proteins, cell and gene therapies, messenger RNA (mRNA), antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and vaccines.

Comprehensive product offerings to meet your workflow needs

Chromatography Resins

Chromatography resins are available for affinity, ion exchange (IEX), hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), and mixed-mode applications. Formats range from early-stage evaluation tools to production-scale resins used in CGMP biomanufacturing.

CaptureSelect and POROS Technologies

CaptureSelect resins are widely used in the purification of complex biologics, including modern antibody formats, viral vectors, and therapeutic proteins. POROS resins support high-speed chromatography steps, making them suitable for use from process development through scale-up

Chromatography Columns

Pre-packed columns simplify setup by reducing the need for on-site column packing. Formats range from bench-scale to process-scale and include resins for capture, intermediate, and polishing steps in purification workflows.

96-Well Screening Plates

A 96-well plate format can help streamline resin evaluation and screening by running multiple purifications in parallel. This approach enables the comparison of binding and wash conditions early, before proceeding to larger-scale purification studies

Analytical Chromatography

Analytical chromatography columns, including affinity and non-affinity, are used in assay development and biomolecule characterization to support downstream processing decisions.

Membrane Chromatography

Membrane chromatography offers higher flow rates and shorter processing times compared to traditional packed-bed resins and can help accelerate biologics production from development to manufacturing.

DynaChrom Single-Use Chromatography System

The DynaChrom system is a single-use platform for pilot-scale chromatography. It is used in process development and pilot-scale manufacturing, aiming to create a bridge between laboratory studies and commercial purification.

Discover chromatography techniques

Chromatography can separate biomolecules by properties such as charge, hydrophobicity, or affinity. Depending on the molecule, different chromatography techniques may be used during capture, intermediate purification, or polishing.

Affinity chromatography

Affinity chromatography is commonly used as the capture step in downstream purification. The target biomolecule, produced in a complex mixture during upstream processing, binds specifically to a ligand on the affinity resin. The target binds tightly to the resin while most process-related impurities either flow through or are washed away. Elution is achieved by applying a buffer that disrupts the binding interaction, releasing the purified target from the column. This technique enables high selectivity and purity early in the purification process, making it one of the most efficient capture methods in bioprocessing.

Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC)

HIC separates biomolecules based on differences in surface hydrophobicity. In biologics manufacturing, HIC is often used as a complementary polishing step alongside ion exchange chromatography (IEX), helping extend purification power by targeting properties that charge-based methods alone may not fully resolve.

Mixed-Mode Chromatography

Mixed-mode chromatography utilizes ligands that interact through multiple properties, such as charge and hydrophobicity. This enables the separation of biomolecules that are challenging to resolve with single-mode methods in fewer purification steps.

Chromatography solutions by modality

Antibody Purification

Increase yield and efficiency in antibody purification using affinity chromatography which combines high selectivity with broad impurity clearance in a single capture operation.

mRNA

Chromatography in mRNA production separates full-length transcripts from double-stranded RNA and truncated products. The purified RNA can then be used in formulation or downstream steps, such as lipid nanoparticle assembly.

Gene Therapy

Gene therapy often relies on viral vectors, such as adeno-associated virus (AAV) or lentivirus, to facilitate the transfer of genetic material. Chromatography separates drug product from product- and process-related impurities in both capture and polishing steps.

Plasma Fractionation

Selective chromatography technologies, such as affinity chromatography, support higher yield and purity during blood plasma fractionation, helping manufacturers extract greater therapeutic value from available plasma.

Recombinant Proteins

Recombinant therapeutic proteins—including hormones, enzymes, and fusion proteins—require chromatography-based downstream purification workflows that can vary significantly by target molecule.
