We continually evaluate and improve the design, sourcing, manufacturing, shipping, and end-of-life management of our electron microscopes to enhance health and environmental impacts. This includes using sustainable materials, alternative manufacturing and shipping methods, and strong supplier and customer partnerships. Focused on innovation, we optimize resources and reduce the environmental footprint without compromising quality. Using our sustainable design framework and PPI Business System, Thermo Fisher Scientific scientists and engineers strive to apply. Design for Sustainability principles to our electron microscopy (EM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) instruments.
We are committed to shifting from linear processes to a more circular economy, where waste is minimized, and materials are kept in use as long as possible. To this end, we offer a take-back program to support the refurbishing, resale, and recycling of used microscopes and spectrometers.
We believe it should be easy to make informed purchasing decisions when looking for more sustainable products. By participating in the ACT Ecolabel program, run by the non-profit organization My Green Lab, we can provide third party-verified information about our products' environmental impact. Think of an ACT Ecolabel as an eco- label to compare the environmental impact of lab products and to help you choose more sustainable products.
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we are committed to enhancing the energy efficiency of our products while maintaining the highest performance. As part of this commitment, we are introducing Eco Mode in select products, enabling smarter power management without compromising performance.
Eco Mode allows instruments to enter a low-power standby or sleep mode when not in use, reducing energy consumption. For example, when activated on our microscopes, non-essential components are deactivated, and an LED indicator turns green to signal energy-saving mode. Systems can quickly resume operation as needed, with reactivation times tailored to different modes.
We take back, refurbish, and recycle used products to extend their lifetime.
Our product take-back program is designed to efficiently reclaim used products from our customers and refurbish them to extend their useful life. It also includes harvesting or responsibly recycling components that we can no longer use to avoid wasteful disposal.
